One of the hottest issue these days, particularly in Bulacan State University is the "haircut policy", where students are required to have a hair-cut prescribed by the new administration under Mrs. Cecilia Gascon.
According to some professors and most students of BulSU, the said policy is unreasonable in a way the hair cut of a person could never affect a person's performance, specifically, in academic subjects or matters. And besides, the admin must not focus too much in such kind of policy because there are obviously bigger problems that need more attention such as; promoting quality education and developing the facilities inside the university like libraries and classrooms, than bossing people about what hairstyle they must have.
The said issue were criticized in social media sites and were discussed inside and out the university vicinity. Some BulSU graduates had already shared there thoughts about the issue and pointed that they are now already professionals in their chosen fields without such kind of policy.
On the contrary, there are still number of people who strongly agree with the said policy. For them, executing haircut policy is necessary for it may serve as a traing to people on how to be a good citizen of the nation. They think that policy as such is a good way to discipline students and to prepare them in much bigger rules they may encounter in the near future. If students are trained to be used in practicing simple rules, it would be easier for them to follow other rules, or in a bigger picture, the laws.
As parent, haircut policy in school/university is favorable for me because student will automatically recognized as respectable students aside of course with their id's and uniforms. Students with long-haired, colored hair or crazy-cut hair will be treated as easy go lucky students.
TumugonBurahinHair does not do anything about how i fuck'n study. My hair describes my personality and how i live my life. I have the right in freedom of expression so i must Have the control on how i wanna cut or style my hair.
TumugonBurahinFirst of all, we must know our Law. Though our nation's court are very much divided on this matter, the haircut policy does not follow what our Law states. One is our freedom of expression, there were amendments of the Constitution and expanded the concept that it is not only regarding verbal communication but also non-verbal which includes having different hairstyles to express thy feeling.
TumugonBurahin**obviously, the school that mandates this already prohibits the students from their freedom of expression since it is a non-verbal form of it.
Then there was this fourteenth amendment which guaranteed that the government will not deny nor interfere with individuals'freedoms, especially without due process.
**the school is evidently interfering with the students' freedom to choose what haircut they are comfortable with.
Encapsulated by the fourteenth amendment, is the guarantee that the government will treat an individual or a class of individuals the same as it treats other individuals or classes in like circumstances.
**oops, as I have seen on some photos and videos wherein security guards on the gates of school do not treat all the students equally. I noticed that they were rude to those who did not have their hair cut short.
Also under the fourteenth amendment,is the requirement that laws and regulations must be related to a legitimate government interest such as preventing crimes and will not contain provisions that result in the unfair or arbitrary treatment of individuals.
**see? Do you think it will affect other people if they have whatever haircut they want? Of course not. If they ate comfortable with it, let them have it.
I still have much to say, but I know my Law so I won't comment on this matter that much. And I personally think that such policy is absurd. Wayback in college, my hair was dyed red while I am wearing an all whit uniform since I am a Psych student then, but I was still able to graduate with flying colors and several awards. Hair is definitely not connected to your brain capacity. It is still our brain cells. So why focus on the students' haircut, why don't they just improve the quality of education they are providing? Will the quality of education depend on the students' haircut? A big no, right? Check on other more serious matters, rather than concentrating with very little things.
As a teacher in the College of Education, wearing proper haircut for both boys and girls is not an issue. It is not an issue because as teachers we have to be a role model of our students. Obedience is another one that students need to practice. Why do students complain haircut in schools? I am sure that when they apply for a job and the HR tells them to have a proper haircut as one of the policies of the institution, immediately applicants will follow because they want the job.
TumugonBurahinSo what are you fighting for? It is just a matter of obedience to policies that you don't have control but just follow. It is not you who will tell to an established institution what should be in the policy. Everything there is for the wellness of its clientele.
You must also know that this site is for everyone, we have the right to utter our own opinion. We respect your perspective regarding this matter, you must also do the same. If you cannot, then that's another issue.
